Six Signs its time to “go pro”

“Oh I already see a therapist.”

“My son’s been in therapy for years.”

This is all good news! YAY! More and more people are recognizing the power of thought reflection and linking it with behavior change. This is every therapist's dream!

I was so excited when I attended the Mom’s Night Out event in NC last month when so many moms raised their hands saying they were already in therapy. AND, what was your tipping point? How did you know? How would you know what to look for or when to actually pull the trigger and go to google.

Here are a few tell tale signs in diabetes to go pro…

  1. Agoraphobia-a fancy word meaning, afraid, I mean deeply anxiously afraid of leaving the house, avoiding situations where you may or may not feel like  you could be extra anxious. Doing anything with diabetes is just omg NO WAY.

  2. Stop doing the daily tasks like taking insulin or “cutting corners” in diabetes. Everything just feels harder to do.

  3. Eating and sleeping patterns are just off. Doomscrolling is at a 12. Fighting what’s going on in your head. Maybe it's diabetes related maybe its not.

  4. Your relationships with either a partner, family, or friends have shifted in some way and you need to talk it through. SO much decision fatigue, guilt, shame in diabetes. SO easy to keep it all to yourself. But is that what you really want?

  5. You notice either yourself your your kiddos mood or communication has changed and its affecting you deeply. There’s yelling, irritability, nothing seems to work and you can’t muster up the energy to figure it out and shift.

  6. Something HAS actually changed-a transition such as a diagnosis, or change in school, something either tragic, or new and exciting is creating either positive or negative stress.

So, basically if you’ve had a diagnosis of diabetes it means you probably need to chat it out. Sometimes therapy is just a venting source, or an outlet, a vent sesh, and other times its months of creating new habits and building trust in ourselves to confidently get to a new place. All of it is OK!

The other piece of good news is that there ARE people out there that specialize in getting you back on track with diabetes. I’m just one of them. If we aren’t a good fit, I’m happy to connect you to others. Let’s start here-a free 15 min chat.
