Some Frequently Asked?s…

I put together some quick FAQs I often get when parents/families reach out about sessions. Let me know what I’m missing! I’d love to hear from you!

  • Who do you work with?

    • I currently work with parents, teens, young adults (up to age 26) and families living with type 1 diabetes. I have a special interest in working with parents and teens on navigating their own feelings around diabetes.

  • How will I know if we are the right fit?

    • It takes time to build a relationship with a trusted individual when opening up about your feelings and thoughts. I highly recommend booking a 15 min free phone consultation to get a feel for what I offer before booking a 1:1 session. (Link to book here). I also live with T1D, which I have for over 30 years. I’m far from perfect, and don’t expect you to be either, ever.

  • How long are sessions?

    • Individual sessions are typically 55 minutes in length and booked on the half hour. Groups vary by length and program.

  • How often do we meet?

    • I offer two types of individual sessions, either a package or one specific session and recommend all sessions within a package be held within a 90 day period.

  •  Where do sessions take place?

    • All sessions are virtual at this time and take place in the Eastern time zone.

  • Do you take insurance?

    • At this time I do not take any form of insurance. If you have a program through your insurer that offers reimbursement for wellness or coaching I am happy to work with you.

    • In addition, many insurance companies will require a formal diagnosis in order to be seen/billed. I do not believe families and individuals living with T1D should be forced into another diagnosis or labeled as such in order to receive coaching or mental health support.

  • Should I book a single session or a package?

    • While one single session can be helpful, I created this opportunity for those who need some “quick answers” like “I’m going on vacation and need some help figuring out my fears around travel and navigating going abroad.” Or someone to review and help update a 504 plan. It will take several sessions to build confidence, and create a rapport and trust which is why I recommend a basal package (up to 5 sessions) for most clients.  Coaching is like therapy in that sense. It is an investment in your health and well-being, your future.

  • What if I can’t afford services right now?

    • I get it. AND I hope you will feel transformed and empowered to change the way diabetes exists in your home, forever. I am happy to work with all families to ensure they get the services they need and work through a payment plan if necessary.

  • What can I expect from our first session together?

    • Our first session will focus on getting to know each other, exploring both the physical and emotional questions and challenges with diabetes in your life and setting some goals for our time together.

  • What type of situations do people most often come to you for?

    • Here are some direct intake responses I’ve gotten….Does this resonate?

      • I’m looking for help on how to control my own fears and not pass them along.

      • My 11 yo just doesn’t understand the long term impacts of T1 and I really need support since she won’t listen to me.
